Like A Band have been making and sharing music since early 2008, stirring surreal yet strong songs into space. They draw influences from genres ranging from Blues to Funk to Electronica and combined the various elements into songs dripping with fun and feelings.
The skeleton for the songs are first written by Sharon, then the band comes together to add on the flesh and skin. Sharon, who tries to write lyrics in very experimental ways (picking random words out of the dictionary, or magazines?), is responsible for some very strange and surreal verses that may not quite make sense.
The band is fronted by Sharon Yang, who also plays around with the keys and knobs for that electronic twist. Eugene Goh fills the songs with zesty, creative guitar riffs and soulful solos. The rhythm section is locked down by Brandon Lee with crunchy bass lines and Siraj with versatile and funky drum beats.
"Art plays a big part in my song writing, and I love the Surrealists. I want to achieve that other-wordly feeling in my music", says Sharon.
With four fiercely different individuals working together, the music of Like A Band reflects some strong personalities that to some extent, do sound like a band.

"It's hard to say what music means to me; mostly because there are several different aspects to music. People listen to music that reflects how they feel. People listen to music because they like how it makes them feel. One can listen to a whole song hearing each instrument taking turns on centre stage, or hear how different instruments communicate with each other and yet at the same time paint different layers of the same emotion in the listener.
Then there are lyrics. Music on its own is evocative. It can warm the heart, play tug-of-war with your ears but the lyrics provide a reference point if you will; a channel to direct the emotional power that music can create.
I like making music. I don't have a large collection of music so my influences are fairly limited, but I like it that way.
Writing is another organic aspect of music that means a lot to me. I sometimes write to communicate a message or portray an idea. I also write to try and evoke emotions in the listener, playing with their musical and lyrical expectations. Other times, it's more expressive, personal; a way of communicating emotions that words alone would never be able to create.
Music does not have one meaning to me, one definition, one purpose. If someone were to miraculously summarize what I've said in a definition, they would still miss out the fact that music is living. One's skill improves, tastes change, appreciation grows. Music is... more than that."
